Coriander Leaves Rice / Kothamalli Sadam


Coriander Leaves Rice, known as Kothamalli Sadam in Tamil, is a flavorful and aromatic dish made with fresh coriander leaves, spices, and cooked rice. Coriander leaves are an excellent source of dietary fiber, manganese, iron, and magnesium. Ingredients:

  • Raw Rice - 1 cup
  • Coriander Leaves - a bunch
  • Oil - 2 tsp.
  • Ured Dhal - 2 tsp.
  • Channa Dhal - 2 tsp.
  • Green Chillies - 3
  • Curry Leaves - a handful
  • Cumin Seeds - ½ tsp.
  • Tamarind - small lemon sized
  • Grated Coconut - ½ cup
  • Salt - 1 tsp. or as needed

For Seasoning:

  • Oil - 2 tsp.
  • Mustard Seeds - ½ tsp.
  • Ured Dhal - 1 tsp.
  • Cumin Seeds - ½ tsp.

Method:

  • Cook rice and cool them and separate the grains by adding 1 tsp. of oil.
  • Take a pan, and heat oil.
  • Add the ured dhal, channa dhal, curry leaves and green chillies and fry for a minute in low flame.
  • Now add the coriander leaves and cook till the leaves are cooked and shrinked.
  • Add gated coconut and tamarind and fry for a minute and switch off the stove.
  • When it cools down, grind to a fine paste.
  • Now heat oil in a pan, and add mustard seeds.
  • When it splutters, add ured dhal, channa dhal and cumin seeds till they become slightly red in colour.
  • Add the ground coriander paste and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Now add the cooked rice and mix well and switch off the flame.
  • Your tasty and healthy coriander leaves rice is ready to be served.
